After a pitiful season, the New York Knicks are in desperate need of a lot of different pieces. From the backcourt to the frontcourt and anywhere in between, any big name would be a drastic improvement. However, the Knicks must sign a big man to complement Carmelo Anthony or next season could be another long one. Here are five post players New York should target this summer.

5. DeAndre Jordan

DeAndre Jordan might not be the best fit, but his defensive mindset and abilities are something the Knicks lack. He averaged a double-double last season with 11 points, 15 rebounds and two blocks per game. Those stats would greatly benefit NY. However, there is a disclaimer that comes with Jordan. He is most likely seeking a max contract, but lacks an elaborate offensive and post game. He is still a step up for the Knicks though.

Reports have Brook Lopez opting out of his contract and testing the free agency market this summer. Again, he is another big man seeking max money, and the Brooklyn Nets may struggle to re-sign him thanks to the over-priced contracts of Joe Johnson and Deron Williams. A 20-and-10 guy who has a good offensive game, Lopez should continue to flourish in the right environment. He can be injury-prone, but the Knicks should at least take a look.

This could be the one player the Knicks must sign this summer. Greg Monroe has steadily improved into a prominent power forward in the NBA. The only problem is he is stuck in Detroit, but here is his chance to finally escape. Again, Monroe is likely another max deal guy or close to it. However, he is averaging 14.3 points and 9.2 rebounds for his career and could be worth the money. This is a perfect fit for New York because he is young.

2. LaMarcus Aldridge

LaMarcus Aldridge is most likely a long shot to come to the East Coast since it is heavily rumored he will end up somewhere in Texas. That doesn't mean the Knicks can't throw an offer at him and see if it sticks. Aldridge might be a decent fit in New York, but Anthony needs more of a "true center" type to be paired with. Still, expect Phil Jackson to give Aldridge a shot.

1. Marc Gasol

The legs on this one might be weak, but Marc Gasol to New York would make the "Big Apple" explode. Somehow, the center has everyone convinced that he is staying put in Memphis. That I just can't believe ,and I fully expect him to leave. He might be 30 years old, but Anthony is not getting any younger and New York needs to win now. Gasol could be the big man to change the luck of the blue and orange.
