Great show today. You can view it at Dannybwins.com
Also check out this article about the Eagles....

Philadelphia achieved perhaps its cleanest victory of the weekend in their win over Tampa on Sunday. The game included three touchdown passes, zero INTs and 296 yards from “backup” quarterback Nick Foles. It has also ignited a burning question in and around Philly as to who the Eagles starter should be moving forward.

The presumption many had heading into the season that Michael Vick should and would be the starter was often founded on his experience and potential within Chip Kelly’s system. Kelly’s offense is built for an athlete such as Vick, and that has been illustrated in the fact that he has rushed for over 9 YPC while also throwing for over 1,000 yards in 4.5 games.

But Foles’ brilliance was on full display Sunday and it came at the expense of one of the most improved secondaries in the league. His grasp of the offense was apparent, and I also felt that his desire to stay and sit in the pocket benefits the Eagles over the long haul.

Foles can’t do some of the things Vick can, but that doesn’t really matter. The basis of this offense is to get the ball to talented running backs in space. While it’s nice to have a quarterback who can run and in turn help create such spacing, that aspect of the attack is better suited for the college game.

Vick is 33 and has serious tread on his tires. He has proven to be beyond injury-prone, and at this point in time, I have to say that it makes more sense for Philly to take a realistic chance on seeing what Foles can do prior to the 2014 NFL Draft.

The Eagles look like a potential playoff team. While they may have a better chance at getting there with Vick right now as opposed to Foles, they have limited likelihood of really going anywhere beyond perhaps a first round exit. Kelly is clearly here to stay, and in that case he has to find whom he believes can run the show under center for the foreseeable future.

To me, Nick Foles is more than a backup. His experience as starter a season ago has to be taken with a grain of salt because of the team around him and primarily its defensive limitations.

Vick is not only 33, but he is also a proven commodity, in both good and bad ways. We know he can electrify with his legs and is a player capable of taking it the distance at any time.

But he is also turnover and injury capable at all times as well. He has not proven effective when asked to sit in the pocket and read defenses in an extensive manner, evidenced by his performance against Kansas City in week three.

Kelly has to decide if sitting Vick in favor of Foles would tear this team apart to some extent. My philosophy is that if a team is coming off as bad a season as this one had in 2012, future job prospects are always on the line anyway. No player should feel Vick has the pre-determined right to start just based on his experience and name.

Should Foles play well during whatever time he is provided, it will make a potential transition for Kelly all that much easier. Foles is 24 years old and stands 6’6. He has decent arm strength, is growing more comfortable in this system.

While lacking the mobility Vick provides, I’m not sure Kelly’s system at the NFL level is really benefited by such mobility when you take into consideration the way the league is headed. It’s going to be tougher and tougher over time to keep Vick upright given his style and tendencies.

But going out and trying to get someone in the draft who can be a younger version of Vick is enticing. Taj Boyd, Marcus Mariota and Johnny Manziel are all the type of talents who could thrive in Kelly’s system. I’m not sure you would want any of them carrying it 12-16 times a game in the NFL, but they all possess the arm strength and overall ability to be major factors while in the pocket.

The possibility of moving forward with a younger body who has similar running ability as Vick needs to be considered and evaluated. But Foles, a guy they got in the 3rd round who could probably be flipped for a second rounder right now, also needs a fair evaluation prior to that determination.

We have yet to see Kelly’s offense play out with a player like Foles at the helm. His presence does not command the attention of a spy, but you really don’t need that when you can hand off to LeSean McCoy and also have Bryce Brown and Dion Lewis behind him.

You can formulate an offense that hands the ball to a running back 30+ times while still ensuring reliable production from the quarterback position in the event your rushing attack is neutralized. K.C. did just that against Philly. They dropped back into zone after putting the Eagles into 2nd and long as well as 3rd and long. The results from Vick were not reassuring.

Regardless, the decision is tough. You don’t want to shake up your team too much, nor do you want to give up on Vick. But the writing is on the wall for number seven. In my mind, he does not give you a legitimate chance to be Super Bowl worthy right now. While no one in the organization may currently be able to provide such hope, moving forward in a manner that seriously considers all options is imperative.

Foles could be able to give you the reliability under center that you need in what should be a balanced offensive approach. He might never win a Super Bowl or become elite, but his overall capacity is still being determined. Nothing has taken place from my vantage point which would indicate he is incapable, and that’s an important consideration.

           Thanks   Danny B

With the worst roster in the NFL preparing to walk into the home of the best offense we've seen in perhaps the better part of a decade next week, it brings to light a sporadic and bizarre history of absurd spreads in NFL games.

Jacksonville was outmatched again this past Sunday, losing to Indianapolis at home by a score of 37-3. The Jags have perhaps the worst quarterback to have ever started over the course of three plus NFL seasons to go along with several players on defense whom are arguably fringe NFL practice squad talents.

Their trip to Denver in week six is just yet another illustration of the very realistic possibility that the Broncos could go undefeated this year. Their additions of Julius Thomas and Wes Welker make them video game like in nature. Combine those athletes with Eric Decker and Demaryius Thomas and it’s absolutely lethal.

Making it even more absurd is the brain power of Peyton Manning. Manning and company just hung 52 on Philadelphia without even playing in the fourth quarter. I'd like to think a similar output could take place against the Jags, and it is one of the many reasons that the advanced line at many Vegas sports books is something around 25-27 points.

The NFL can say all it wants about it being a league of parity. Playoff football certainly attests to such a theory. When the playoffs roll around, dogs come out to play with a real chip on their shoulders. The physicality and increased emotion make for difficult match ups regardless of how a team is perceived.

But the regular season is quite different. When you look at teams like Detroit not too long ago and other organizations, you realize that the NFL has wealthy businessmen often running a business which they really do not understand. The ability for an organization to be inept for long stretches is not only real but likely, and the end result is the scrimmage like atmosphere that will likely be in play at Mile High next weekend.

Back in 2007, right round the time that Tom Brady and Randy Moss were annihilating opposing competition, Vegas took a stand and began to throw out large numbers for certain games. The Pats entered three different games as favorites of 20 or more, including a ridiculous line of 24 against Philly that resulted in a narrow three point win.

The Niners of the late 80's and early 90's also saw some huge numbers come their way, including a 23.5 line in a 1987 game with Atlanta and a 24 point line during a home spot with Cincinnati in 1993.

The Steelers of the 70's were also afforded a massive number or two back in the 70's, and the Rams during the tail end of the "Fastest Show on Turf," era held a 19.5 point spread in a home game with a young Carolina group back in 2001.

On the flip side, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers of the 70's were on the wrong side of a vast numerical disparity twice, once at home against New England in 1976 and the other time during a road bout with Dallas the following year.

The point of the matter is simple; it is not by coincidence that a number like this pops up. Sure, a spread can take on an elevated form should perception and recent performance really be that grave. But typically the number is a real sign of serious inefficiencies in the way the sport is supposed to be set up at the professional level.

Eventually Denver will come back to earth as a franchise once Peyton is gone. Jacksonville should eventually begin a climb back toward mediocrity once Blaine Gabbert is shuffled off to the Canadian Football League or some other organization.

But, for now, this game is really taking place. Most "sharps" prefer to never touch a favorite in the double digit range, let alone one that is giving away a projected 27 points. Here, however, I highly doubt those points will be sufficient.
