New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady will be suspended next week due to the findings of the Wells Report, according to the New York Daily News' Gary Myers.
Brady could be facing a two-game suspension but the length of the punishment is still yet to be determined, according to Myers' report.
The reigning Super Bowl MVP appeared in a press conference at Salem State University, denying any culpability in the Deflategate scandal to great fanfare.
Wells determined "it is more probable than not" that Brady was aware the Patriots were intentionally deflating footballs to a level past the league's minimum threshold of 12.5 to 13.5 pounds per square inch.
Brady allegedly did not cooperate with the investigation's request to provide more information. Two Patriots staff members were revealed to have shared text messages about Brady demanding footballs to be pumped to a certain level, as stated in the Wells Report.

On May 6, Ted Wells released the findings from his investigation of the New England Patriots' alleged underinflating of footballs in their AFC Championship win over the Indianapolis Colts. Wells determined that it was "more probable than not" that Patriots personnel both participated in violations of league rules and were involved in a deliberate attempt to circumvent those rules.

Need to Know

  • Brady appeared at Salem State University on May 7, in his first public appearance since the Wells Report was released, and said he had no reaction to the report's findings. Asked whether the Patriots' Super Bowl XLIX win was tainted, Brady said, "No, absolutely not." The quarterback added that he'll address the report in the future, "hopefully soon."
  • As a result of the report's conclusions, the NFL is expected to consider potential fines and suspensions for the Patriots' employees in question and the organization as a whole. NFL executive vice president Troy Vincent will take the lead with regards to discipline. Brady is expected to be suspended, although the length of the punishment remains unknown.
  • Once the report was released, newspapers were quick to poke fun at the findings, depicting everything from Brady as Pinocchio to Brady being physically deflated on their front pages.
  • Brady's agent Don Yee issued a scathing statement of the report questioning Wells' integrity and suggested investigators determined Brady's guilt before seeking facts and then built the report around that framework.
  • Even president Barack Obama took a jab at the Super Bowl champions when they visited the White House. "I usually tell a lot of jokes at these things, but with the Pats in town, I was afraid that 11 out of 12 of them would fall flat," Obama said.
